Anthony Minghella has died. Wow.

I like The English Patient well enough (and it will always deserve props as the first digitally-edited film to win an editing Oscar -- go Walter Murch!), but I'm a huge fan of The Talented Mister Ripley in particular.

A huge loss.

I couldn't stand The English Patient, but that was due to the original book, not the direction.

But Minghella also did Truly, Madly, Deeply (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103129/), which is one of the best ghost/love stories I've ever seen.

I just saw the Seinfeld episode the other day where everyone was hating Elaine because she HATED The English Patient.

Oh Holy Carp! I had met the man. He got his start as the scriptwriter for Jim Henson's the Storyteller. Nice nice guy.

And I was just thinking about watching Cold Mountain. Sigh.

Yes, The Talented Mr. Ripley is one of my "watch at least once a year" movies.
