I've been mostly offline the past week, dealing with work crises and other fun stuff (including nearly five hours on the road on Friday to go to Connecticut and back for a conference!). But some stuff is too important to let slip by.

Ever since she heard about it, Elayna has had her heart set on going to Exploration at Wellesley College this summer. It's incredibly nifty, has tons of things she's interested in, and a lot more expensive than previous summer programs she's been in.

Between grandparents, tax refunds, and other money sources, we're close to having what we need. But close doesn't get you into camp.

So Elayna and [livejournal.com profile] shadesong came up with an idea: Write to earn the extra money.

'song, of course, has been doing a monthly project called "Wind Tunnel Dreams" already, featuring a week of storytelling at a time. So 'song and Elayna decided to write seven stories in seven days, each one updating a different fairy tale.

That's seven stories each.

Fourteen tales in all, with two updates for each of seven classics. Called the Gojirawitz Girls Challenge.

I expected good stuff from 'song; I certainly don't tend to underestimate my wife's writing ability. But I'm still blown away by what Elayna's done. With minimal prep time, no time for drafts, and (in a couple of cases) minimal familiarity with the source material, she put together some absolutely incredible pieces.

You can read the stories at the links below, and if you feel like donating, there are donation links on every story's page as well:

Rapunzel

The Princess and the Pea

The Steadfast Tin Soldier

Cinderella

Rumplestiktskin

Hansel and Gretel

Sleeping Beauty

Wrap-up details are here, and a chance to vote for your favorite interpretation of each tale is here.

Go read those stories. Seriously. I'm so damned proud of both of them.
