The good thing about being the only human in the bed for an extended period of time: all three cats cuddle around my leg at night.

The bad: Since the cats recognize that "one human in bed" is an abnormal state, they feel it's okay to wake me and ask questions throughout the night. Seriously, even Tori (who never walks on humans) was on my shoulder, purring at me. Jack paced over my back multiple times, and Max spent the time from 5-5:45 (when I finally gave in and woke up for good) asking me when I'd come downstairs and feed him.

I swear, cuteness is an evolved survival mechanism for cats. It's certainly saved the lives of the ones we own multiple times.

At least they haven't discovered the time-honored trick of the 15 lb. cat pouncing on the bladder. Or the 13 lb. cat chasing his own tail between your knees on the bed. Guaranteed to wake you up. Or, in the tail-chasing case, make you dream of wild rides on boats.

I don't know if it's saved their lives as much as saved them from being punted across the room...

I SO hear you! And ours don't care if it's one person or two people in the bed. If they want THAT spot they take it - shoving and squirming till the human gives in and moves. It's much cooler today than it has been so all 5 were on the warm water bed by about 3 AM.

Mine did that, often resulting in me in some awkward position
on the bed to accomodate them and they sleep belly next to you
as close as possible with arms and paws slid under/over you.

In the winter they'll sleep between you and the long floor/sideboard radiator edge.
But in warmer weather they sleep between you and the edge
you normally use to slide off the bed.
You have to climb over them to get out of bed so as not to wake them or they meow at you till you come back from getting snacks.

Hmmm... just like my exwife and girlfriends ;)

That is when I start complaining that the bed is infested with pussycats, and threatening to call pest control.
