The writers behind Iron Man are rebooting the Highlander franchise.

Not sure how I feel about this. The Highlander franchise produced one campy classic film and three solid seasons of TV, balanced by four "holy fuck, how did something this dreadful get made" movies, an awful Amanda series, and an unwatchable cartoon. A reboot is certainly better than revisiting the current universe, I guess.

I don't have the first movie on the same pedestal that others do, but the two things that made it truly entertaining were the Queen soundtrack (really, would Heather's aging evoke half the emotion it does without "Who Wants to Live Forever?") and Clancy Brown's performance. I don't expect a remake to be able to duplicate either of these.

The guys in charge of the reboot have made nothing but crap, so I'm not holding my breath that they even get out of script phase.

Too bad no one took the Kurgen's advice and burned out and faded away.

I have no real interest beyond the first, original movie. There should have been only one. (I'm told the TV series got better, but I was turned off by the few early ones I saw.) I did recently, out of pure morbid curiosity, pick up an anime Highlander movie. It's amazing how many immortals named MacLeod there were, all told.

Erm, Highlander: The Series lasted six years, not three. Not all those seasons were solid, but four certainly were -- only the mediocre first and the embarrassing sixth were forgettable, but the second through fifth seasons were some damn fine TV.

The TV show got about a million times better in its second season, particularly when they killed off Tessa and made Richie an Immortal. And the third and fourth seasons were especially killer. Seriously, I'd give the series a shot.

Hey here's an idea...how about recognizing when an idea's been beaten to death, pumped full of adrenalin, defibrillated, beaten some more, rode into the ground, dug up, hollowed out, and filled with tomato plants? And maybe just letting it die if not with dignity, 'cause cousins we're long past that point, but with a little quiet mercy?
Aren't there any good sources that haven't been adapted yet? I don't know why they can't pursue something new instead of 'rebooting' and 'reimagining' (gawd I shudder when they say that) every tired old idea.

I always think og the pistols-at-dawn scene when I think of how entertaining the film is. But even as a fun film, it's still lower down on my list of cult films.

Also, there's a videogame coming out.

I love Highlander to an unhealthy degree. I mean, I've seen every version of the second movie. More than once apiece!

I have to say, I like the idea of a "reboot" more than a "sequel". Because the ending of the first movie doesn't really allow for any of the other properties (except possibly Highlander 3). Much better to just start over.

The Kalas episodes are still some of my favourites. There are some great outtakes with the actor who played Kalas. (His name escapes me at the moment.)

First seasons are almost always shaky. It was still trying to find its feet. I'm trying to forget most of the sixth season. It's sad that two of the best episodes were the ones that didn't have Adrian Paul in it at all. (One was just Joe and Methos.)

Wow. And I thought I was hard core. ;)

I will admit to having a soft spot for the Planet Zeist version...

I say screw the new writers and give the cash to Gregory Widen to create a new and original idea. Both Highlander and The Prophecy spawned franchises of 5 feature films each. The man is a good worldbuilder, and creates interesting mythologies. Wish he would create another one...
