Dude.

Highlights:

30 Rock got four noms for guest actor, and three for guest actress. I'm lazy, but surely someone with more time than I have can tell if that's a record.

Pushing Daisies scored a ton of noms, including acting nods for Chenowith and Pace. McBride was robbed (not one of the five noms for supporting actor has been even close to as good); not as sure about Anna Friel; I adore her, but I also adore all five ladies who received nominations (although I'd still take her over Louis-Dreyfuss), and if anyone but Parker wins, I'll be disappointed anyway. Back to Pushing Daisies, though, how the FUCK is it not up for best comedy series?

Great to see the love for Damages (especially seeing Zeljko Ivanek and Ted Danson get well-deserved nods) as well.

As always, lots of shows I don't care about scored noms, which isn't necessarily bad -- I don't like Boston Legal, for example, but Shatner and Bergen carry the show (or, to put a different spin on it, I adore Samantha Who, but am fully aware of just how much Applegate and Smart carry that show). Other than the ongoing and inexplicable love for Gray's Anatomy and the Best Comedy Series omissions (really, folks, giving comedy series noms to two long-not-funny HBO shows when Showtime had at least two better comedies, and Pushing Daisies remains the best show on TV?), there's nothing that truly pisses me off, especially when I take into account the sheer number of worthy shows and actors out there.

Waitaminnit... Amy Poehler as Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy for Saturday Night Live? Has that ever happened, that a player on a sketch comedy series got an Emmy nod? I don't recall it right off hand if it has.

I'm just glad this year I don't have to make my annual post about being disappointed that Lauren Graham got snubbed for Gilmore Girls again.

Possibly a dumb question here, but can someone explain the difference between "art direction" and "cinematography" to me? Or if nothing else which one is it that, when I watch Pushing Daisies, makes me go "OMG the green and yellow and all the vivid colors and this show just *looks* so cool!!!"? Because if that factor is cinematography (which I thought it was) and not art direction, they were robbed blind.

ETA: I have answered my own question through the magic of Wikipedia. It is, indeed, art direction that gives me my vivid greens and yellows, and any other show winning that award will make me throw things at the TV.

I notice there's not a nom for Avatar. I also notice there's not a category for Best Writing for an Animated Series. I want a Best Continuity in a Series category.

Also, yay for all the noms for Pushing Daisies!

Oh, also, when I loaded the page, I totally thought that said "Goth Primetime Emmy Awards."

My biggest disapointment is not having The Closer up for Drama. I'd have easily replaced Boston Legal (which is more comedy) or even House (which I love but it is still pretty repetitious) to make room for The Closer.

I love that "I'm Fucking Matt Damon" was nominated. That should be as fun to watch as when "Dick in a Box" was nominated -- only moreso, because we'll get to see the discomfort of Sarah Silverman and Jimmy Kimmel working together again!
