1. Paul W.S. Anderson defends Death Race. Yes, he remains my favorite director named "Paul Anderson."

2. Andrew Wheeler responds to the latest SF Mind Meld. My god, it's full of snark.

3. A D&D game on Facebook!

4. A black velvet Wesley Crusher. Proof that John Scalzi is made of evil.

5. Feedly is an interesting twist on a typical aggregator -- it works with Google Reader, Twitter, and other services to provide a magazine-like start page as a Firefox extension. Has some potential.

6. Roger Ebert on how much 3-D sucks.

7. Alex Proyas is adapting Heinlein's The Unpleasant Profession of Jonathan Hoag. I'm sure he'll do just as good a job with Heinlein as he did with Asimov.

7.5 In fairness, The Crow and Dark City remain two of my favorite films, so Proyas might remember how not to suck.

8. Gamasutra has a huge article on Atari's golden years (1978-81).

9. The next Burke book, Another Life, comes out in December. And it'll be the last. :-(

10. Finally, ever wonder how many homes John McCain owns? So does he.

I fell passionately in love with There Will Be Blood as a beautiful piece of filmmaking.

7.5 I enjoyed The Crow as a movie, but as an adaptation, it sucked rocks. The entire point of her murder and his revenge was that the killers were unthinking louts who felt no empathy toward anyone and expected no consequences for their actions; the adaptation insisted that the murders be part of some vast occult conspiracy, and that the uberminds behind the villains be utterly depraved mockeries of humanity (rather than just typical examples of "normal" human depravity).

By "elevating" the villains to the protagonist's level, the adaptation changed the story from supernatural revenge to supernatural incestuous infighting.

alex proyas simply does not understand how a film is supposed to fit together. either that, or he feeds his editors crystal meth.

and he can't direct actors for shit.

yes, i have an axe to grind against the fact that dark shitty city exists, and that folks who should know better don't realize -- or would rather not see -- his immense shortcomings.

I find it deeply amusing that some people are upset that he's making changes to 'Death Race'. :)

Actually, I'm kinda looking forward to Death Race. It helps not to think of it as a re-make of.

Also Babylon A.D. cause Michelle Yeoh.
