Sorry, John Lackey, but the "better team" most certainly didn't lose. How do I know? Because the team that won is, de facto, the better team. What you meant to say is that the team with the better record lost. Not the same thing. The Angels weren't better than the Red Sox.

Yeah, there was some shitty luck, terrible defense, and a questionable call. There was also a team that took advantage of their opportunities. The best team does that.

That goes doubly so in a baseball series. You didn't lose one game; you lost three. That makes the Red Sox a better team than the Angels, no matter how the regular season worked out.

While the replay confirmed that the umpire made the correct call on the "questionable call", very few people are pointing out the most jaw-dropping thing about that play: Reggie Willits got outraced by Jason Varitek, the latter with two failing knees and wearing full catcher's armor.
