Please lj-cut this. Onion videos autostart every damn time I load my friends page.

I usually want to see a preview rather than a generic placeholder, personally--almost no videos posted to my f'list have autoplay. :( A placeholder isn't very informative.

This exactly. The Onion is the only site I've seen so far that begins the video immediately on page load. Which means that when I open a friends page that has a video from Youtube or Hulu or Game Trailers or Daily Motion or Comedy Central or Funny or Die or Google Video, it waits patiently until I get down to it and shows me a preview picture. When I load up a page with an Onion video, I immediately hear it hijacking my PC speakers.

The video placeholder apparently does not work on this one; I just activated the option and it's still there.

It works for me, it just doesn't work for Onion videos.

I find it deliciously ironic that The Onion doesn't follow the rules of polite internet decorum and autoplays regardless of a person's settings. Or maybe it's just aptly appropriate?

I've always wanted the guy who gets sucked into hell to get sucked into hell. He's in those annoying Sonic commercials.

I know him, he taught a class he was in. Which isn't to say that you should like him, too. I point it out because I think it's cool to know someone that's in a disliked commercial. I've never been able to say that before.

Mhehe - I knew that it was something autoplaying from my LJ when I heard it start, took me a second to realize that it wasn't contextually appropriate for World of WarCraft.

Alt-tab

Grumble, grumble...

Scroll through the list of friends' posts, some of whom had well behaved vids patiently waiting for me to start them.

I'd be grumpier if I didn't find the vid interesting and funny, although I suspect it will get on my nerves after the third or umpteenth time...
