Did anyone ever give Arthur Miller grief about the passive voice?

I mean, surely some student, having memorized rules without comprehending them, must have suggested he run with, "Willy Loman never made a lot of money, never got his name in the paper, but you must pay attention to such a person."

(Obligatory disclaimer -- I like DoaS just fine as it was written, thank you very much)

I'll add that the moment my brother T.J. told us about from either junior high or high school, when an English teacher admittted that Pride and Prejudice basically has no plot and T.J. replied "If we wrote a story with no plot, we'd get an F!"

But when you're brilliant, you get to break the rules.

One of these days I will sit down an actually do my recording of "Death of a Salesman - the one man show".

I have a sampling I made somewhere.

This has nothing to do with what you wrote, but it reminded me of this fact.
