Amanda Palmer's label won't promote her because they think she's too fat and won't let them cut out pictures of her belly.
There are at least three problems here. First, anyone who thinks that Amanda Palmer is fat is ten kinds of stupid. Second, anyone who thinks that how fat an artist is actually matters is twenty kinds of stupid. Third, you can almost never see her belly in the video anyway (you can see that she's wearing a revealing shirt, but other than one moment when she twirls -- which reveals that she's in damned fine shape, anyway -- it's never even a factor).
Seriously, this is a label run by morons and assholes.

Date: 2008-12-01 02:07 pm (UTC)Both the artists available and the ones who get the most promotion and commercial success make it pretty clear that being eye candy is still WAY too important in the music industry. Overwhelmingly for women, and in pop music for men. Blah.

Clearly, Amanda isn't worth having on their label since she cares more about her music than her abs. *sigh*

Date: 2008-12-01 05:20 pm (UTC)those label assholes just made a brilliant marketing move, whether they intended it or not.
it's not as funny as when Sony sued itself a few years ago (the label vs electronics....over CD burners....I'm serious), but it's right up there.
the video's very cool.
