So, episode one AG (After Grissom) wasn't bad.

My only complaint, actually, is that Fishburne gets the first spot after the credits, instead of Helgenberger. That's not insignificant, but since I only watch the credits once or twice a year (when the cast changes), it's not something I'll notice again until next fall.

I love that Langston isn't bumped to any special position of power, and has enough rookie issues that even Riley seems like a veteran. And I love the interplay with Hodges, still heartbroken after losing his one-sided bromance opportunity with Grissom.

And I certainly love that Willows is the commander. Talk about someone who has earned it. Between her cases and her daughter mysteriously aging three years between seasons back in '06, she's had a long, weird journey. And she's been effectively the field leader since season 4 or so.

It's also fascinating to realize that Nick is now the senior guy on the team. I'm glad that he split Grissom's insanely large office amongst the three junior folks. One thing I hate about the other CSI shows (aside from the lack of actual lab work, or (in the case of Miami, detective work and acting)) is the seeming mega-billion dollar equipment and office space budgets. Having Riley, Greg, and Nick share an office makes sense.

Langston's first day was a good opportunity for them to go over some basic CSI infodumps, as well as addressing some new points (why most of them don't carry around every kind of powder, the fact that no one ever checks things in with the evidence officer, etc).

The case itself was the least interesting thing on the show, but still well-done. If nothing else, hey, it's the kid from Fido!

And the argument between the husband and wife when they're picking up the jewelry was classic CSI humor.

And that lunch counter scene? Awesome. Great character building without interfering with the flow of the show.

Overall, I'm optimistic. I do want more focus on folks who aren't Langston, but this was his rookie episode (as an actual member of the team), so that's okay.

I liked it (and I am a big fan of Ms. Helgenberger), but it seemed odd that they'd put someone in charge who was unfamiliar with field techniques. As for Miami, I agree about the acting. I cringe every time Caruso speaks.

Yeah, I was a little startled to realize that Nick is now the senior guy. But I love the fact that he decided to split the office with Greg and Riley... that was a classic Nick move.

For an introductory episode, I thought what they did with Langston was very good and the humor they injected into his "first day" was great. It looks like the dynamic with Hodges could develop into something really interesting.

As the season goes on I'd like them to explore Willows taking over--she and Grissom worked together so long I doubt there will be a huge difference in their leadership styles, but there are bound to be some. And we definitely need to learn more about Riley. She's quite a character and they need to explore that more.

I think we should see more of a transition to Nick as the Teacher as opposed to the Student.

Overall, I really enjoyed it and I am looking forward to seeing how the rest of the season develops.

The one thing I do like about Miami is the saturation of colors.
Otherwise I wish Caruso would check into a clinic somewhere never to act again.

I love his newbie and not newbie status.

Because I think like Grissom, Langston is going to shine with Doc Robbins.

The bit with him cutting the trachea like an old hand was beautiful.

:D

I notice you never mention CSI: Justice League or as it's otherwise known, CSI: NY as people who have never been to NY envision it.

Yeah that really bugs me too, it's particularly bad in the NY version

Nice casting last night too...we get Victoria Pratt, who costarred with Gina Torres aka Mrs. Fishburne in Cleopatra 2525, showing up in Mr. Fishburne's first ep with him listed first in the credits...

Damn I need a life...
