Once again, XKCD gets inside my brain

Today's XKCD sums up one of my problems perfectly. I'd attend any conference at which a speaker solved this problem.

In the example given, there is no reason not to use a footnote:

This is one of the very few reasons why I actually like the automatic yellow smiley in most IM software. It brackets far more comfortably.

That's what I do too... I don't really like it, but it's better than any of the alternatives that I could come up with.
