From a NY Times interview with Jerry Bruckheimer, talking about Confessions of a Shopaholic:

Q. Isn’t this movie a little girly for you?

A. People forget that 25 years ago I made a little movie called “Flashdance,” which was certainly a chick flick in a lot of ways. More recently we made a movie called “Coyote Ugly,” which was about a girl’s journey. So every once in a while we will hit that button. I just look for really good movies that I want to go see.

Um.

Yeah.

Coyote Ugly was most certainly about a girl's journey. While, you know, dancing on a bar with a bunch of other hotties. I'm surprised he didn't toss the Cat People remake into the mix here. I mean, that was about a girl's journey into the world of shape-shifting, incest, and insanely bad plotting.

My bigger surprise was Bruckheimer producing a film adapted from a novel instead of, say, an article...

Coyote Ugly-related thought, why not:

I remember seeing Piper Perabo in the poster for the film and thinking She's like a Jim Mahfood drawing brought to life.

I'm sure you mean that as a compliment to her, but I don't see it that way.

I did mean it as one. Some of the women I've found attractive have that angular look Mahfood draws. And I like Mahfood's stories and his drawing style.

By the way, the first thing I ever wrote about her was "Piper Perabo IS Olive Oyl! Whoops, wrong cartoon. But put the actress who plays FBI rookie Karen Sympathy in a black wig and she could play that character; she has the jawline for it."

Haven't read Confessions of a Shopaholic, but does it have a role for Malcolm McDowell being really creepy? Because that was the best thing about Cat People.
