If this script (link ganked from [livejournal.com profile] coffeeandink) is really the original pilot that Fox execs mangled, someone at Fox is either too stupid to hold even a TV executive job, actively hates quality TV, or is a manatee. There are no other believable explanations.

You are insulting manatees.

My thoughts exactly. Manatees are gentle, intelligent creatures who enjoy quality tv, lettuce, and not being mangled by boat motors.

Have to agree completely... that script was compelling - the show isn't.

My votes for all three... Seriously, this is Fox !
They're actively trying to destroy quality Tv, so they can replace it with crap, 'cause it's cheap to make and profit margin is high.

Of course, it's a f**king stupid plan... as the internet is promptly filling the void.

Oh good grief, yes. Yes, yes. That script, so very much better. The show? Not so much of the good. (And I *want* to like the show. I want to. I want to be all fan-girly when I meet Harry Lennix again next month (well, sort of. I also have to come across as intelligent and be able to talk about performance and race, but nevermind that now). I want to love everything Joss Whedon's name is on. But... I pretty much hate Dollhouse so far. This makes me sad.) :(

Ah, I was right.

Fox sucks, and Whedon is still a tool for going back and expecting them to let him actually make a good show.

Well, Whedon's talent hasn't managed to make him sufficiently wealthy to produce his own stuff yet, so he has to find the backing somewhere.

I'm sorry that FOX seems to be his only choice. (I know that Buffy was produced by FOX, even tho it was shown on the WB and then UPN.) Perhaps they still have contractual right of first refusal?

Reading that script made me really sad, because it is SO MUCH BETTER than the pilot! While I had issues with the pilot, I actually like the show, and am definitely willing to watch it for a season. But there is so much online bitching about the crappy pilot and I want to cry, because look at what it COULD have been!

Ugh. Stupid Fox.

Wow. That, right there, was the Whedon genius I was looking forward to.

*looks back and forth between the script and the show she just watched*

What... what just happened here?

Ms. Dushku had a first look deal at Fox, so Whedon went there.

He should have know better.

And if he went with a Dr. Horrible TV mini-series, or web series he could have called his own shots.

(beats head wordlessly into wall) Well, if that isn't real, then it's a damned fine fake, considering that portions of it were filmed and released as promos. This is just a shame; will FOX never learn?
