I'm currently reading The Eyre Affair. It's fucking brilliant. It's also got a nifty web page at http://www.thursdaynext.com/ (named after the lead character). My favorite of the various subpages is this one, listing the divisions of SpecOps. I just love the idea of Literature Cops: http://www.specops.org.uk/who.html

Why would the Dekalb Public Library use a search engine running in Java? I've got nothing against Java, but it accomplishes nothing other than slowing the service here. A library catalog search is something that just begs to be run using basic HTML forms, with an Oracle (or whatever they prefer) database on the backend. Java just makes things more confusing.

Eisner noms came out today, and Carla Speed McNeil, one of my faves (and someone I've been a fan of since well before she was trendy) got four nominations! Woohoo! See all of the nominations at http://www.comicon.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=13&t=000991

Bad idea #126: getting carried away at the supermarket when you're on foot (and with a kid in tow). I bought a 12-pack of Coke, some orange juice, grapefruit juice, juice boxes (for Elayna), Tofutti, and two four-packs of Frappucino (for 'song). Not to mention the assorted not-heavy stuff. Elayna was nice enough to offer to carry the bag with the Pepperidge Farm Goldfish and the air freshener. But it was still a lot to carry back. My arms hurt.

On the plus side, our new dining room set arrived, and it's nifty! And Elayna thinks the fact that the seats are covered in plastic (because Rooms to Go covered them in shipping) is really neat. :-)

And I may actually get to post about this past weekend before the end of April.
