So, we finally watched Strictly Ballroom last night (taped off of IFC onto Tivo), and it was great. I have no idea how Baz could have two movies that I like so much, and one that I actually rank below the Troma adaptation of the same storyline. If his next film sucks, I'm going to assume that he's subject to the inverse of the Star Trek curse, and that I shouldn't bother with anything but his odd-numbered films.

But damn, when he's good, he's really good. Ballroom dancing ranks very near the bottom of the list of things I could be interested in (especially after suffering through lessons for a couple of years in my misspent youth), and competitive, political ballroom dancing is something I truly thought silly. But I don't think I even blinked for large chunks of screen time. We're so getting this movie on DVD.

Insert your own "Stayin' Alive" joke here.

Accuweather.com says it's currently 24 degrees. And I'm still thinking of heading out for a walk. We need some OJ for Elayna, anyway, but I just need a chance to walk, really.

I also really need to push this week about finding a replacement hard drive. I hate not having my own computer. Especially this week, as this is one of those overwhelming work weeks, where I usually log about ten-fifteen hours from home.

I've got some comic thoughts I'll be posting later, partially inspired by re-reading Miracleman, partially by seeing the Bratpack TPB being brought back into print, and partially from finding and reading the Justice Society Returns special from a few years ago. I'll churn these out sometime later today or tomorrow. With a cut-tag, of course. :-)

Anyway, time to brave the cold.

Yes, it's post #1000! And to celebrate, I'm naked! Beneath my clothes, that is (and yes, I'm stealing that from Rita Rudner (and whatever happened to her, anyway? I liked her!)).

No other celebrations are planned. I'm actually planning on heading over to [livejournal.com profile] jet_li_wannabe's place with [livejournal.com profile] voltbang in a bit to play Blood Bowl and watch my Jets get stomped by the Raiders. No, it's not what I want to happen, but the Raiders are rested, playing on their home field with all the battery-throwing hooligans, and, as Lisa Simpson pointed out, they always cheat. So the odds are not with my guys. But I'll still be rooting them on.

And I'm happy for the Titans (because the Steelers losing, like the Cowboys, Dolphins, or Raiders losing, is something that I just can never really get enough of), and sad for the Falcons, even though they really weren't good enough to win. But this is the first year I haven't hated them, and I wouldn't have minded seeing Vick go a bit further in the playoffs.

[livejournal.com profile] shadesong (looking at a Scholastic catalog): Cool! Elayna can build her own remote control!

me: Cool! Does it come with Kari Wuhrer?

Turns out it doesn't even come with Colin Quinn. Although Ken Ober may knock on your door and beg for some spare change.

[livejournal.com profile] shadesong also just came across yet another ad for an informational book about penguins, and squeeed. To which I told her that there was no reason for squeeeing, because penguins are everywhere. They're like a social disease.
