Yay! Amazon has finally listed The Looney Tunes Golden Collection for pre-order! This is a four-DVD set of, well, let me just quote the official list:

Disc one will feature 14 Bugs shorts with a special introduction from Chuck Jones and audio commentaries on several shorts, featurettes on Bugs Bunny, Yosemite Sam and Elmer Fudd, part one of the John Canemaker documentary The Boys from Termite Terrace, animated sequences from My Dream is Yours and Two Guys From Texas, segments from The Bugs Bunny Show, the 1989 short Fifty Years of Bugs Bunny in 3 1/2 Minutes, the 1991 short Blooper Bunny, a photo gallery, and 1950’s trailers.
Disc two will feature fourteen more shorts with an emphasis on Porky Pig and Daffy Duck with selected audio commentaries, alternate music tracks for some shorts, featurettes on Marvin the Martian, Porky Pig and Daffy Duck, the second part of the Termite Terrace documentary and another photo gallery.
Disc three contains 14 more shorts with selected audio commentaries and alternate music tracks, featurettes on Road Runner, Mel Blank and Carl Stalling, the featurette Toonheads: The Lost Cartoons, original storyboards, and a photo gallery.
Finally, disc four contains the next fourteen shorts with selected audio commentaries and alternate music tracks, featurettes on Speedy Gonzales, Friz Freleng - Tweety & Sylvester and Robert McKimson – Foghorn Leghorn, a 50 minute documentary "Irreverent Imagination: The Golden Age Of Looney Tunes" narrated by <>Stan Freberg, the pilot for Bosko the Talk-ink Kid, pencil tests and more photo galleries.

Yeah. DVD-gasm. This is quite arguably the most important animated DVD set of all time.

For the wimps, there's a smaller box set of just discs three and four. But why you wouldn't want the complete set, I don't know.

The bad news? The Firefly and Buffy Season 5 DVDs have been pulled from Amazon. I'm assuming this means they've been delayed. :-(

Will be announcing our new President today. I'm more than a little nervous -- Bill Chace has been an amazing Prez, and one who has been a very strong advocate for IT and for the Humanities. He's also a genuinely wonderful man. The new guy will have a tough legacy to follow.

Marvel has finally announced a sequel to the best damned miniseries they've had in the last ten years. Kurt Busiek will be bringing us Eye of the Camera, a six-issue miniseries, next year. Alex Ross is not attached to it, but Jay Anacleto is, which is just about a wash in my book (and honestly, as long as Kurt's writing it and Humberto Ramos is not drawing it, I'm happy).

And there's a ship date for the Finding Nemo DVD! It's arrive November 4! And it's already the #2 bestseller at Amazon.

So, now that my pop culture fix is out of the way this morning. . .

We got home last night to find [livejournal.com profile] ocean_song awaiting us! Hooray! Soon after, [livejournal.com profile] kiwitayro, Josiah, and their friend from Hampshire arrived, and we all sat around chatting for a bit. We then headed to Noodle (sans the friend from Hampshire), were we had scruptious food. yum.

We then headed to JavaMonkey, where we had lots and lots of caffeine. We were joined there by [livejournal.com profile] missbiscuit, [livejournal.com profile] vidicon, [livejournal.com profile] thetuan, and [livejournal.com profile] bheansidhe, and we sat around talking and just plain having a really good time.

Eventually, we (minus [livejournal.com profile] vidicon and [livejournal.com profile] bheansidhe, as Vid had to wake up early for work) headed home, where we watched Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, and then got to witness yet another concert by the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] missbiscuit. Which had the bonus feature of two trad songs that I'd only heard Boiled in Lead do before (Step it Out Mary and My Son John).

The time being after midnight, we finally called it a night. We've got three wonderful house-guests who are hopefully getting some rest right now.

And now, work beckons. Four meetings today. Blah. Need caffeine. Need it intravenously.
