I'm back!

Wow. This may be the longest I've gone without posting. (checks LJ calendar). Yup. Most I ever skipped before was three days. This time, I skipped eight. And (as I may have mentioned a few weeks ago), reading LJ wasn't even an option, time-wise. So if anything important happened in the last two weeks, email me (and yes, I know I still have email from [livejournal.com profile] olliesmama and [livejournal.com profile] ocean_song and probably others to respond to; I suck).

Let's just say that Back-to-school was tough. Trish, one third of our team, had an accident with a pressure cooker, and ended up in the hospital with second-degree burns, and wasn't even in any condition to work from home until this Wednesday. This meant that Kathy and I had to work a lot harder than ever (and without being able to plan for it, as with Kathy's pregnancy two years ago). Combined with working all weekend last weekend, things were insane this week.

D*C was fun, but also kept me away from the computer. The con was way low on drama, which is always nice, but still higher on stress than I'd like, as we still had two days in which we had to bring Elayna to the Con (and huge huge thanks to [livejournal.com profile] irana, Davith, and Taylor for allowing us to have two days when we didn't). Elayna handled the con much better this year, but it was still stressy, as DragonCon is just not an easy place to handle with a child. She did enjoy Iron Artist 3, though, and bought a picture from Ariel David with her own money.

I'm still to exhausted to really post about the weekend in detail. The party on Friday night was a highlight, as we managed to have all the elements of a good geek party, including an orgy on one bed, simultaneous OSX/Unix discussions five feet away, and a visit from hotel security. Nothing could be better. Finally got to meet [livejournal.com profile] theferrett, who I then played massive games of phone tag with for the rest of the weekend. Alas, we never managed to catch up with each other again for lunch or dinner, but it was great finally meeting him in person at the party. The full guest list can be found here.

The rest of the weekend consisted of gaming, buying graphic novels, buying gaming stuff (mostly for me -- I snagged Settlers of Cataan for $18!) and buying toys (mostly for [livejournal.com profile] shadesong, who found lots of Swedish Chef stuff). We also hit the Iron Artist panel (wonderful as always), in which William Stout managed to beat out Don Maitz by three points, chatted with Peter David, Judd Winick, and others, caught a damned fine reading by [livejournal.com profile] newbabel, saw lots of folks around the con (way too many to name), hit the Forensic Pathology panel on post-mortem body changes (I was the only one who attended that one that I knew, although I spotted an old college buddy across the room), and had fun the entire weekend. I may try for a detailed report later, as there's lots more I want to talk about.

Oh, and I'm back reading LJ now. Starting pretty much now. I just don't have the patience to try to catch up on the last week's worth of stuff.
