Gilmore Girls. Quick recap: Weakest episode in ages, and one of the worst examples ever of "Gilmore TV time."

spoilers )

Scrubs, on the other hand, was damned near perfect. This is the episode that they need to submit for Emmy contention next year. It was that damned good. The fact that any show in which one character loses a father and another gets diagnosed with a life-changing disease could also have two of the funniest moments I've seen on TV in ages says volumes about this show.
real spoilers -- the stuff about the death and disease doesn't count, since previews have mentioned those. )

First, [livejournal.com profile] shadesong is walking in Aids Walk Atlanta this weekend. You can sponsor her (and read more about the walk) over at this site. If you want to sponsor her for less than the $25 minimum the site accepts, let me know, and we can arrange paypal (although any Paypal payments won't get your name up on the sponsor site, we will list your name on the form we turn in).

Second, eleven days until the Wedding! Woot! That means that in eight days, I'll be in Momland, where comments about my weight are made as often as five times a minute! There's a reason to keep family in other time zones. Aside from that, I'm very psyched for the wedding, or at least the marriage aspect of things. Wearing a suit and stuff aren't quite as exciting.

Third, only eighteen days until Halloween! Yes, the only holiday on which it becomes socially acceptable to dress like an axe murderer. And this means that the next few weeks will see lots of scary movies on TV. Always a good thing.

Fourth, last night's game --wow! Yankees/Red Sox do make for a great pairing. Going from a near-perfect game to a runfest to a save by Rivera is classic.

Fifth, interesting sounding book title of the week: Permitted and Prohibited Desires: Mothers, Comics, and Censorship in Japan. Gets some interesting reviews, too.

Since [livejournal.com profile] shadesong was asking -- Dodgeball, one of two Alan Tudyk movies to break $100 million this summer (yes, he really was King of the Multiplex this year), comes out on DVD December 7. That's just in time for X-mas, but too late for Hanukkah.

Other stuff: Looks like Furcal's finally in jail. Of course, if he'd had any other job, he'd have been in jail at least a week ago. I really hope he's in a cell block with transplanted Cubs, Mets, and Astros fans.

Oh, and finally, have another Incredibles preview. Man, I'm psyched. And having seen the "No Gut, No Glory" poster, I now need that phrase on a t-shirt.

Amazon is selling 9 Season 1 DVD sets for $14.99 each. That includes Buffy, Roswell, Angel, 24, Millennium, Simpsons, Futurama, King of the Hill, and In Living Color..

I may finally spring for 24 and Millenium. I liked the latter, and have been meaning to watch the former. At that price, it's cheaper than a trip to Blockbuster.

A number of you are incredibly talented writers. I know about the latest book by [livejournal.com profile] yuki_onna, of course, as well as the various books that [livejournal.com profile] nihilistic_kid and [livejournal.com profile] kijjohnson have published. And [livejournal.com profile] matociquala will be making her big-publisher debut shortly. And that's not even mentioning the many of you ([livejournal.com profile] shadesong included) who are comics creators. And I try to pimp highlight those works, not merely because I want to see my friends succeed in general, but also because I enjoy seeing good creators get some respect.

But I know that I'm not likely to remember everyone who has something nifty come out. So use this poll to tell me what you've got on the way.

(Oh, and an aside -- this is specifically for stuff that you have in the pipeline. If you want to recommend your mother-in-law's book or whatever, that's great for your own LJ, or for any time someone asks for book recs in general.)

The poll is open, but I've screened comments, so if you want me to see something but you don't want others knowing you've said it, feel free to comment away.

Tivo recorded Cabin Fever for me, and I finally watched it last night.

Quick opinion: It's a good, but very flawed movie.
