The Farrelly Brothers -- who last made a good movie in 1998 -- want to remake the Three Stooges with Jim Carrey, Sean Penn, and Benicio Del Toro.

(Link ganked from [livejournal.com profile] coyotegoth)

First of all, the Farrelly Brothers don't need to make movies anymore, period.

Second, this idea sucks monumentally on many levels (although Del Toro is probably a decent job of casting).

Third, the Stooges don't need to be remade.

Fourth, if they did need to be remade, the proper cast would have been Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung, and Yuen Biao. Twenty-one years ago.

I am not a Three Stooges fan. (This fact has been used several times to "prove" that I am not male.) IMHO, the Three Stooges didn't need to be made the first time.

But I must defend the Farrelly brothers. Even if you did not like "Fever Pitch" (which I find incomprehensible), you must admit that 1999's "Outside Providence" was a "good movie". That is not just a matter of taste; that was a provably good movie.

I'm still puking at Jim Carey playing the Devil in the remake of Damn Yankees!

I would rather have my testicles in an industrial sausage press than watch anything with Jim Carrey or Sean Penn in it anyway, no matter who directed or wrote it.

Many have tried, and it is documented to this fact. The Stooges weren't just slapstick. It was timing and more. Things that Jim Carrey has proven he doesn't have in comedy.
IOW, you said it perfectly.

I heard about this on NPR yesterday and even though I'm not a fan of the Three Stooges it made me want to cry. Bad enough to re-make the Stooges, but with that casting?! There are no words strong enough.

This will make you feel better: when a baseball stadium introduced its 5,000-calorie Fifth Third Burger, the big question people kept asking was "What, no bacon?"
