Landor isn't perfect by any means, but they generally do a pretty good job when they're allowed to (see the old British Airways pre-"ethnic tails" paint scheme). I can believe that this was not only not their idea, but one they argued against; obviously, I have no proof for this.
the text of that announcement reflects way too much clever passive-aggressive stabbystabby to be the same people who came up with the idiot "syfy".
through raised eyebrows and elbow-nudges they make it quite clear that the Channel wanted them to rubber-stamp a dumb internal idea, and they took money but won't claim the idea.
That's kind of funny; several years ago my wife participated in a focus group for McDonald's. The item in question was their "drive through" logo, and two were presented. One was the "arches car" that you currently see; the other was some sort of "Mc Go" or something. The focus group was unanimous in preferring the "arches car", but the host of the study kept trying to get them to select the alternative, without much luck. So it was pretty obvious that the company had already made their selection.
McDonald's ended up using the latter logo, but when it ended up being a dismal failure they admitted defeat and switched to the one used today.
