Happy book day!

Elayna went out to get the morning paper, and there on the doorstep was a package from the good folks at First Look Books with an arc of Adverbs, the new book by Daniel "Lemony Snickett" Handler!

It arrived just as I was looking for another book to read, even.

On top of that, the back cover mentions that Harper is reprinting The Basic Eight, so we'll soon have a complete collection of Handler's novels to date.

TV, KOL update

TV: Tivo finally got the updated lineup, so we can start catching CSI reruns on Spike again. Woohoo!

House was damned fine last night, although I'm irked at having to miss what I'm guessing was an emotionally brutal Scrubs (based on where they were headed at the end of the previous one). Loved seeing the guy from Felicity and Alias and the Girl Who Learned to Masturbate on a Horse from Cruel Intentions 2 (okay, she was also Jack's girlfriend on Jack and Bobby, but that's not as amusing). And I enjoyed where they headed with Wilson.

KOL: I ascended a few days ago. I figured that I could get out of Ronin (and thus have costume access) by Porktober 8, and it looks like I'm right, as I'm 187 turns away, and should thus make it out the day after tomorrow. I'm currently about a third of the way through level seven, and about as ludicrously unbalanced as I've ever been, stat-wise (45 Mus, 26 Mys, 28 Mox). I'm a Seal Clubber, and I'm planning on taking this run to level 13 to get the cold resistant skill.

Hey, you got your anti-Semetism in my racism!

nihilistic_kid noted this article, talking about the troubles that many Jewish racists have fitting in to the larger world of racism, in which there's *gasp* also a huge amount of anti-Semitism. There's something almost pathetically amusing watching racists clash with each other, or there would be if it didn't signify something very fucked up with the world. But there are great quotes here, including a Jew storming out of a meeting after calling someone a Nazi (can you even invoke Godwin's Law if you're a part of a racist movement?), and quotes like [Jews] don't exist. For me, they are like Eskimos. I'm still trying to figure that last one out (do they sell a frozen novelty item called Jew Pie anywhere?).

But my favorite moment is this little bit, talking about the head of this little group of racists: "Ultimately, for all the things I care about to happen, Jews must be part of the movement," he said in an interview. The reason, he added, is that Jews have influence and are widely seen as "the conscience of our society."

You just know that he left out the next sentence he wanted to utter: Besides, the Jews control the banks, and we need funding to keep our movement going.
