Because the first two books I read were Deathstroke and Suicide Squad, and they were both so abominable, I was faced with the choice of either stabbing my eyes out with a spork or holding off on reading comics for a day.

Oh, incidentally, all the comments about making Amanda Waller thin are dead on, but none of them cover the fact that, even if Waller had been drawn exactly as Luke McDonnell had drawn her back in the day, the book would still have been an unreadable mess of a book written by someone who not only had no interest in the history or tone of the Squad (a fair assessment in a reboot age), but also had no concept of good writing.

Anyway, longer reviews to come sometime this weekend.

The Muppets do yet another parody, this time of the ludicrously overcut trailer for the ludicrously overhyped adaptation of a ludicrously overrated novel:

According to my Google-Fu, there is no bakery anywhere serving "Scones From the Class Struggle in Beverly Hills."

(There's also no DVD of "Scenes from the Class Struggle in Beverly Hills." What's up with that?)

( And yes, I also Googled for "Scones From the Class Struggle in Springfield.")

A Marie the Psychic Turtle series.

Obviously, I'd prefer Rozakis and Destefano on the book, but I realize that Bob's out of the industry now. Whoever they get should, of course, be a master of decompressed storytelling.

So, the songs from Glee's first episode are out there, and there's some good stuff.

I'm unapologetic about the fact that "You Can't Stop the Beat" is my favorite song from "Hairspray," (I can and often do like cheese; deal with it) and the cover that the show just released makes me pretty happy (even if Rachel, shockingly, gets too much spotlight time).

And mashing up Cole Porter and Irving Berlin is the kind of mashup genius that worked so well with "It's My Life/Confessions" and that they kept failing to replicate for a season and a half of failed mashups since.

My only mild disappointment is that Tom Jones really needs to be covered by someone with a more powerful voice; either Kevin McHale or Amber Riley would have been a better choices.

Ha!

So I left a comment on this Blog@Newsarama post last week (easy enough to find).

I just listened to part two of this week's Wait, What?

Yeah, Jeff Lester and I are definitely on the same page at times (and I'm pretty sure he hadn't read Graeme's post at the time of the recording).

(Realizing, of course, that only [livejournal.com profile] murnkay listens to the same podcast here, but if you like comics, it's worth listening to.)
