As some of you know, I love sardines. A lot. Mackerel and herring, too. If it's canned fish, I'm there (although I don't obsess over salmon and tuna to the same degree, but I certainly eat them). If you ever want to send me a nice present, a tin of local sardines is, in all seriousness, always appreciated. I eat these things about four days a week, and I love just about all varieties.

As some of you also know, I'm obsessed with the Disgaea games. And Disgaea 4 came out two weeks ago. It's awesome on all sorts of levels, from the ludicrous amount of strategy and game techniques that the series has always offered, to a decent storyline, to the wacky humor and pop culture references.

But the running gag of the game is that Valvatorez, the vampire lord main character, is obsessed with eating sardines. To the extent that they're the theme of every between-chapter interstitial, as well as an in-game item and something talked about constantly.

I've never been more convinced that I'm the in target audience of a game than now.

I've talked about my running progress, but I haven't really done one post talking about my walking (although I know I've mentioned it offhand at various times).

I've done the occasional big walk to work (as I've posted about before), but those are less viable as I need to stay home long enough to make sure Elayna's awake (and thus can't leave as early as I used to). I'll get the occasional one in when she's off from school and I'm not, but those days are few and far between, and aren't really indicative of my regular routine.

Previously, I walked about .75 miles to the bus each morning, and about .5 from the bus to work. Repeating in the evening, that's about 2.5 miles a day, which probably wasn't terrible to begin with.

Since I switched to getting off my bus in central Waltham, I now walk the same .75 miles to start with, followed by a 1.9 mile into work (this also gives me the option of taking the 70A if it comes first). On the way home, I'll take either the same 1.9 route, or a shorter 1.4 one back to central Waltham. Once there, I can take the 70/70a, or I can take any of the assorted 55x buses that hit Newton Corner before heading out of town. Any of those latter ones put me at yet another 1.9 mile walk from home. The 70 puts me at about a mile (I get off a little further away than where I board in the morning).

The tl;dr* version: On any given weekday, I'm walking anywhere from 4.8 to 6.45 miles. I also do a 1.5 mile jog on some of those mornings.

I'm still not thin by any definition of the word, but man, are my legs getting toned.

(Needless to say, I dread rainy days, but have managed to avoid most of them. I'm also not looking forward to the inevitable "Boston is covered in a sheet of ice" days.)

*tl;dr (too long; didn't calculate) probably makes more sense, I suppose.
