I officially proposed in our back yard, handing over an emerald ring that my now-wife had chosen and which had been adjusted to fit her finger. The emerald fell out of the ring into the grass, which at that time was unusually green and more than usually long. We never recovered it.

Fortunately, the jeweller who'd adjusted the ring gave us an even better-looking replacement.
