Amazon's got a decent amount of Friday the 13th movies on sale, with a few hovering around the $5 mark (including Part VII for $5.91/76% off).. The best deal in the series is actually season one of the very under appreciated (and unrelated other than by the name and producers) TV show for $16.99 (69% off). Fun fact: Friday the 13th: The Series's John D. LeMay was not supposed to be the lead in Jason Goes to Hell, but when Blair Underwood dropped out, he got the part.

Speaking of movies in which the actions of mindless killers makes no sense, even after a perfunctory "explanation" is offered, Serenity on Blu-Ray/DVD for $8.49 (43% off) is a nice deal.

The Ultimate Avengers Collection is $7.99 on Blu-Ray (note that Amazon list their own cheap price under "More Buying Choices" on the right; ignore the overpriced deal in the middle of the screen).

And on the video game front, Final Fantasy XIII-2 is $29.99 (50% off) for the PS3 or Xbox.

Here's the link to my original countdown of the series, from worst to best.

(I appear to have written those seven years ago. Holy crap!)

From Robert Bloch's "Letter to a Convention-Goer," originally printed in the Newyorcon Program Book in 1956, reprinted in The Eighth Stage of Fandom.

"To begin with, eat all your meals in your room. This business of finding a friend and making a date to meet for dinner at 6 o'clock sharp just never seems to work out. Because your friend tells another friend and he tells another. You end up waiting around until 9:30 and finally eat your meal with 48 people and Forrest J. Ackerman."

(Granted, the odds of Ackerman showing up at a con meal are tiny these days on account of "zombies aren't real," but starting a meal hours late and with a huge crowd seems a given.)

As some of you might remember, I've been walking every year in the BARCC Walk for Change as a part of Team Venture.

I won't be able to walk this year, as I'm leaving for my trip to Milwaukee that day.

But the team will still be walking. You can see the entire team -- including [personal profile] shadesong -- above, or, if you're looking for someone who is still looking to hit his goal, you can see [personal profile] sindrian's page here.

If you read me, there's a reasonable chance you know how important a charity BARCC is. For those who don't know, BARCC is the only provider of comprehensive rape crisis services in the greater Boston area. They provide free services to survivors, family members and the community. That is only possible through donations, and they rely on the Walk as one of their major sources of fundraising.

If you're wondering how your donations can help, here's a sampling of how various amounts can benefit BARCC:

$25 helps BARCC answer two hotline calls.
$75 pays for medical accompaniment to a hospital emergency room by a trained volunteer.
$200 supports the first three sessions of free counseling for survivors and their families.
$1,000 allows a new volunteer or intern to attend BARCC’s comprehensive training program.

So, if you're in a position to give, take a look at my teammates, and considering sponsoring one of them
