1. Hey, you know all that voter fraud the Republicans are citing as the reason behind voter id laws and the like? Guess whose committing fraud? More here.

1.5 That's one reason I'm not counting any chickens before they hatch this election cycle. The other is explained here. I'm fine with dismissing much of what Romney stands for (or doesn't, as it were), but even before his liefest last night (really more of a commentary on Obama's uncertain speaking style than anything good Romney did) I don't want to underestimate him as a politician (although I doubt it's possible to do so as a person).

2. Axl Rose is going to appear on Jimmy Kimmel. You just know that this is going to lead into them doing a recreation of the greatest on-stage meltdowns of all time.

3. Why the video game industry is still seriously messed-up, item #962in a series.

3.5 Here's a good look at the Japanese game industry and the problems with assuming it's all about creepy porn (without dismissing the examples that are).

4. I tweeted this a couple of days ago, but it bears repeating. Bad as some of the responses to social media have been in fandom, they're often worse in academia.

5. Finally, here's how to set up your desk. Anyone who knows me knows that I probably violate every single one of these principles.

You can get Robert McCammon's Boy's Life for $.99 on your Kindle!

Nancy Kress's awesome Beggars in Spain is also $.99!

You can also nab Mira Grant's Feed for the Kindle for $1.99. I was decidedly not blown away by this book, but since I'm clearly in the minority here, you might enjoy checking it out.

And Baking Basics and Beyond: Learn These Simple Techniques and Bake Like a Pro is free today (normally $19.99)

On DVD, season 1 of Johnny Bravo is only $6 (76% off)!

Taken is down to $7.99 (60% off), and The Prestige on Blu-Ray is also $7.99 (50% off, and $1 cheaper than on DVD).

The Blu-ray version of The Raid: Redemption is $17.99 (50% off).

The TV Deal of the Week will nab you either of the first two seasons of The League for 50% off on Blu-Ray or DVD.

The Blu-Ray deal is on the ESPN Films 30 for 30 set, down to $43.99 (56% off).

Oh, and the Gold Box Deal of the Day will nab you the Criterion editions of either The Seven Samurai or The Samurai Trilogy for 50% off.

In video games, the inFAMOUS double pack for PS3 is $29.99 (25% off), and Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City is $24.98 (38% off) for the PS3 and $19.49 (51% off) for the X-box.

In kitchenwares, the Oster 6706 6-Cup Plastic Jar 10-Speed Blender is going for $20.88 (60% off, but really about $15 below the other sales). The Breville RM-JE98XL Certified Remanufactured Juice Fountain Plus 850-Watt Juice Extractor is $99.99 ($75 below other prices).

Suffice to say, based on this interview, that Eugenides hasn't read Ken Bruen, Reginald Hill, or Megan Abbott.

You can almost see Rob Zombie pitching his latest piece of crap like Stefon on SNL:

Rob: It's got everything: A guy in a KISS mask, dancing pagans, weird animal-headed people, and Sherri Moon Zombie!

Producer: Sherry Moon Zombie?

Rob: You know, that thing where I take my ludicrously untalented wife and insist on putting her in major roles in all of my movies even though she can't act?

Anyway, here's the trailer, in case anyone had any foolish hope for the state of US horror movies in 2013:

1. Todd Akin's fucking obscene accusations that non-pregnant women are tricked into abortions continue, and he's using a known fraud as a source.

2. Meanwhile, Orson Scott Card has decided to focus on the racist, Islamaphobic side of himself instead of the homophobia he's been embracing so much recently. It's so nice to see that he's multidimensional.
