Production on the movie New Moon (the second Twilight film) has stopped because Stephanie Meyer's old college roommate claims that Meyer stole the idea for the story from her.

Should be interesting, in light of the fact that A) it's damned hard to prove idea theft, and B) Twilight isn't the slightest bit original to begin with, unless the claims are about "sparkling" or about specific lines of text.

Never mind. It's a hoax, as noted by [livejournal.com profile] chris_walsh.

Apparently the chick's actually got a halfway decent case; she saved a copy of the story in question (and there are glaring similarities) and, probably more damning, their college professor remembers reading and grading said story. Either way, I'm going to be watching and laughing.

Hoax. (Someone was suspicious of the article quoting a "Dr. Peter Benton.") I heard of that via [livejournal.com profile] cleolinda here.

How about an injunction to stop production because the series sucks?

It's a shame it's a hoax. It's about the only thing that could make the series at all interesting.

It sure seems like a hoax (Dr. Peter Benton's got mad surgical skillz, but English professor he's not) but apparently it's spreading towards the MSM (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30313782/) (first story).
