I Twittered briefly about this earlier this week, but we watched the pilot of Ryan Murphy's new series Glee, and it lived up to its name.
It's basically a rework of Murphy's Popular -- complete with the football star/singer issue -- although I suspect it'll go less into the surreal (no all-mullet episodes, for example). And it's got Jane Lynch and Jayma Mays, which is usually enough to get me to watch anything (aside from Mays, it also features Jessalyn Gilsig and, in the pilot, Stephen Tobolowsky, so there's lots of familiar faces to Heroes fans). It's funny, sweet, occasionally dark, and quirky without every letting the quirks ruin the actual show.
All three of us are pretty much hooked.
And yes, it's got a pair of actors who are way past the drinking age playing the primary teens. But I can let that one slide. It's good enough to be worth it.
If you're in the US, go catch the pilot on Hulu.
If you're elsewhere, here's the final three minutes and change of the episode, featuring a wonderful Journey cover (at least, here it is until the Fox Lawyers catch wind of it):

What the hell yendi, have you gone hormonal on us?

Date: 2009-05-28 12:42 pm (UTC)I grew up on both horror movies and Broadway musicals (as well as Journey). I apologize for neither one.
