I swear, I think Firefox tabs multiply like Tribbles.

1. Why do cakes sink?

2. Adam Cadre's review and analysis of Election (courtesy [livejournal.com profile] tablesaw).

3 [livejournal.com profile] theferrett explains why the remake of The Wicker Man was so much, much more awful than the original. Note that I fully agree with his thoughts one why it's okay to attempt a remake of a flawed movie.

4. A.E. Hotchner on why Scribner's handling of A Movable Feast is wrong.

5. The folks at Hard Case have found a lost Donald Westlake book!

6. [livejournal.com profile] yuki_onna on why writers are not just vessels. Ag great posting with one of the best threesome of sentences I've recently encountered: "Writers aren't fragile Mina Harkers, occasionally filled up with Dracula's literary fluids. We're Rosie the Riveters. We always have to roll up our sleeves and do the damn work."

7. Google Earth now offers the Moon (along with the sky, Mars, and Earth).

8. Borders has discovered that teens read, and will now craft a section of the store just for them. Hearing about Twilight pencil cases doesn't blow me away, but it's nice to see them mention Scott Pilgrim. Hint to Borders: Our fourteen-year-old daughter has read every Pilgrim book, but stopped Twilight after book 1.

9. There's yet another Twilight Zone movie. Directed by the guy who wrote and directed The Astronaut's Wife. In other words, there'll be a really crappy Twilight Zone movie in the near future.

10. Finally, John McCain has apologized to Jackson Browne for using one of his songs. Somewhere, a McCain staffer is singing "Here Come Those Tears Again," but they won't get the rights to that one, either.

If there had been no other reason, I would have voted against McCain just for using a Jackson Browne song, with or without permission.

I kind of want to unleash [livejournal.com profile] theferrett on Duncan Jones the next time Mr. Jones tweets about how he wants to remake M.

First rule: Peter Lorre is dead. Much as I adore Sam Rockwell, his modern equivalent, he is not up to the job nor is anyone else.

Agreed. We don't need a remake of M, we need a clean copy released on DVD.

I worked for Borders for 13 years and the stores all had a YA area...they're just dressing it up fancy now and adding graphic novels. Still won't save the chain as they've had their head up their collective ass for far too long-raping the title base down to the lowest common denominator, making an bloody hashup of a website, deciding that stocking a huge array of non-book items (freakin garden gloves ferchrissakes?!!) would be awesome because the margin is so much higher, implementing a weird customer loyalty program and then having to completly retool it etc.etc.etc.etc.

Sad because they used to be a solid worthwhile bookstore.

The moon joke (zoom in far enough and you get cheese) was there five years ago, possibly starting on the 35th anniversary of the Apollo XI landing.

Oh, you want Tab Mix Plus. From the Mozilla site if you're on 3.0.x, from the author's site if you have 3.5.

It's rare for me to have fewer than several hundred tabs open.

But Thanks

I never said it was problem. They all show up eventually as I read and close the visible tabs.

It's rare for me to have fewer than several hundred tabs open.

I've hit triple digits, but not often.

Five years? Really? Tempus certainly does fugit.

I've never seen The Astronaut's Wife but if we're talking about the guy who created Life, I'm encouraged rather than discouraged. Life was some damn fine programming and I'm just sorry that it didn't make renewal at the end of this season.

I don't know, it's why I'm holding off upgrading too! It was ok the last time there was a major upgrade that officially wouldn't work with it. Perhaps I'll just upgrade on the laptop, which only ever gets up to about twenty tabs...
