So, the second comment in this thread about the Hugo Award reads, in its entirety:

NEIL GAIMAN! GREATEST WRITER IN THE WORLD!!!! SANDMAN!!!!!

I honesty have no idea if "Methos," the commenter, is being really snarky and sarcastic about Neil (and the cultish ways of some of his fans), or if he's actually one of the cultish fans that make me rub my temples to alleviate the pain.

Also fun (for certain values of fun that include aforementioned temple-rubbing) is this Guardian blogpost and the ensuing comments (http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/booksblog/2009/aug/10/myth-genius-neil-gaiman).

I have often said that one cannot judge an artist by their fans.

Fans aside, Neil is one of my favorite people to listen to at a con. Go to any panel and you can tell that he loves his fans and loves science fiction and cons and comics and all that jazz. And he's a really, really good speaker.

Are you trying to imply that Gaiman ISN'T the greatest writer in the world? Because I'm perfectly willing to drown the streets of the greater Boston area in blood until I've gotten you to recant...

Do you know if it's true that Neil Gaiman is a scientologist? I keep seeing rumors about it on the internet but no verification either direction. We saw the band Humanwine in concert a few weeks ago and got talking to the singer, Holly Brewer. She claims she's friends with Neil's daughter Holly and that she is the "only one in the family who isn't a crazy scientologist."

I don't generally care what religion people are, either. However, I have a large dislike of scientology due to their worse-than-average antics, so to speak. Oh well, I'm not going to worry about it, but I curious if you had ever heard anything about it.
