Do you see my problem? I am fiscally conservative and a pragmatic minarchist, and people like the woman with the Obama/Hitler sign are claiming to be speaking for my side.
I am starting to sympathize with those who may have had good arguments for organized labor who were surrounded by union thugs in the early 1980s. The pro-labor arguments never got heard inside the Beltway because the thugs were tarring everyone by association as mindless violent drones.
I think most sane people who lean more to the left (like me) know that people with Obama=Hitler signs do not speak for the majority of conservatives. I think that important questions have been raised, and that debate should be encouraged. But the Obama=Hitler people don't want to debate. They believe that the government is going to kill their grandmothers, and no amount of rationality is going to convince them otherwise.
I wish I could vote for Barney Frank, even though I live and am registered in Florida. I've always liked him a lot. :)
He kind of vaguely alluded to the fact that, as a Jew, he was insulted by the comparison of Obama to Hitler. And yes, it is within the rights guaranteed by the First Amendment for the loonies to say things like that. But when are members of the Jewish community going to stand up and say "Enough"? Unless Obama stands up and says "Yes, I am in favor of institutionalized racism and genocide," the metaphor needs to STOP. Comparing someone who (as the sane portion of the other side of the debate believes) might restrict our medical choices to a psychotic genocidal maniac diminishes the terrible tragedy of the Holocaust.

Unfortunately, if we limit this discussion to sane people, then we exclude the overwhelming majority of politics.
