Ten links make a post
Sep. 2nd, 2009 09:52 amBecause it's Back to School time (and we're swamped as a result), have some links (a few cribbed from my Twitter posts):
1. Google Books: A metadata train wreck.
2. Yes, Disney bought Marvel. Just a reminder: Warner has owned DC for years. I expect the changes will affect non-comic properties (license deals, movies, etc) more than the comic line itself (besides, could one make the mainstream MU suck any more, other than maybe by hiring Dan Didio?).
3. Speaking of Didio, here's why I've just pretty much thrown up my hands and said, "the hell with DC."
4. Keeping things comics-related, how in the world did I miss the fact that Darwyn Cooke is doing an adaptation of Richard Stark's Parker books? (Stark, of course, was a pen name of Donald Westlake.)
5. Here's a nifty Venn Diagram of Mythical Creatures.
6. The Food Timeline! Great for writers and/or foodies.
7. Ever wonder about how many video games are film adaptations (and how many big films get game tie-ins)? Someone's doing research into it.
8. Mary Pearson -- of Adoration of Jenna Fox fame -- is now blogging at Tor.com!
9. Ever wonder just how accurate those stats in the NBA are? Go find out. Now ask yourself if you think football (w/ tackles, PDEF, stuffs, etc) and baseball (errors) are any better.
10. Finally, in honor of Vermont becoming another state in which same-sex couples can finally get the same marriage rights as others, Ben and Jerry has temporarily changed the name of one of their flavors in VT.
