Fall TV Stuff

yendiThe Fall Season is officially underway (although nothing's really official until the first show of the season is cancelled, and since Hank doesn't even air until September 30, we've got time).
(Incidentally, the fact that Hank is likely to be cancelled is why I'm not the slightest bit worried about Jordan Hinson returning to Eureka next season.)
Last night's House was meh. Great acting from Braugher and Miranda, but the writers either did no actual research into mental hospitals, or decided that they could completely ignore anything that annoyed them. Granted, that's the case with the main hospital, too (isn't it funny when, once a year, we actually see a nurse at Princeton‑Plainsboro?), but it annoyed me more here. Still they needed to push the plot forward, and they did it reasonably well. Given the roles he's been stuck with since Thief, it's nice to see Braugher doing something that doesn't completely suck.
The season premiere of Castle, on the other hand, was damned fine. As with any midseason show, they had to make a good jumping-on episode, so there was more backstory than needed, but there's such wonderful chemistry between all of the characters, I don't mind. Only a general lack of Martha annoyed me. And I got a kick out of the shout-out to Molly Quinn's part in A Christmas Carol.
Didn't watch Heroes or HiMYM. I kind of hate the networks for tripling up on one timeslot, while leaving Tuesday -- previously a busy night -- devoid of anything I'd ever care to watch. We'll catch both shows online, of course.
Other than tonight's season finale of Warehouse 13 and tomorrow's Glee, our Tivo's getting a rest until a busy Thursday, where it'll grab Flash Forward and CSI, and catch SNL Weekend Update Thursday, Fringe, and possibly Community (haven't watched last week's premiere yet) online.
Friday will see us choosing Dollhouse over Medium or Ugly Betty (although we'll likely catch UB online). Nasty timeslot there. It'd be nastier if I gave a damn about Stargate.
Saturdays are dead (unless I hear good things about something CBS reruns on that night). Sundays will offer The Simpsons (which is running on fumes, of course, but still manages the occasional moment of genius), Desperate Housewives, and Californication. I'll likely catch American Dad in reruns (not worth hunting down on Hulu), and Family Guy is long off the radar (you have to wonder if Tina Fey was kidding about Seth McFarlane's drinking at the Emmy Awards; the difference in quality between AD and FG is stunning, and that's likely because all of the folks like Mike Barker who were once with FG are now over on AD).
Mid-season shows I'm looking forward to include V, Lost, Chuck, Scrubs (although I'm concerned about that one), Better off Ted, and possibly Sons of Tucson (mainly because Tyler Labine deserves some love post-Reaper).
Yeah, between the crap shows and the bunching of good shows, our Tivo's not going to be much busier now than it was in the summertime (when, frankly, there were nearly as many good shows on the air).

I'm cautiously optimistic; everyone's plotlines are separate at this point, but the threads are being woven to pull things together later, and nothing struck me as obviously stupid. (This is high praise compared to the beginning of last season.) I did see one thing someone did coming from miles and miles away, though.

No one even noticed that it was bullshit (who the fuck says "and we hope to never see them again!" when sending patients off, with a party no less? I mean, who the hell do they think is that insensitive? Oh right, House. When he told off the suicidal girl at the basketball game, I was expecting retribution then. But it wasn't the right time stamp for him to have his revelation, so nothing bad happens in the first half hour.)
It's not about test scores! Except when it is.
