The Weinstein Co can go fuck itself.

Mind you, other than the new Michael Moore documentary (which, I suspect, I've gotten the gist of from his assorted interviews), there's not a Weinstein co movie that looks worthwhile scheduled, anyway.

Oh, and for the local folks, the Brattle can go to hell, too.

Well he would have been long out of jail by this time if he just went in the first place.

Of course, the south of France isn't exactly a subsitute.

And that Michael Moore movie looks awful. I liked it when it was Roger & Me, but he's gotta move on.

BTW, read the transcript - in case I didn't make it clear in the last post - definitely wrongheaded in my defense of the creep. Sorry about that.

I stopped reading at "Whatever you think about the so-called crime..."

"So-called?" Jesus.

I haven't said word 1 about the whole thing yet. The government may have "made Polanski a scapegoat" (for what? doesn't a scapegoat need to cover something?)... but Polanski made himself a child rapist.

One mistake? He got the kid alone, prepared enough to have a hot tub going, had half a quaalude handy, gave a kid booze, gave a kid the pill, waited for it to take effect, and didn't listen to "no" several times.

I don't care if a brutal murder messed your head up, that's premeditated rape. Polanski should be under the jail.

Agreed

Unless she repeatedly and emphatically makes a statement to the effect that she made it all up, there's really nothing that anyone can say to defend the creep.

And I tried.

What do you suppose would happen if a whole buncha BARCC members and supporters all showed up for the 11am show? With signs.

Somewhat in the Brattle's defense, I suspect that screening was slated long before all of this happened, so it's probably not like they're showing it out of support for him in light of the new developments. The post-movie discussion should be interesting. It's worth showing it just for that, I would think. Topics might include how we feel retrospectively about a film made before its director committed a reprehensible crime.

Thank you. I happen to know for a fact that the Brattle screening was scheduled long before all of this happened, so calling for a fuck of the Brattle in these circumstances is essentially demanding that every movie be banned from screenings forever if the director of that movie does something immoral.

No one suggested otherwise. Are you affirming that yes, you do believe that movies should be taken out of circulation if a person who made the movie does something horrible, like Roman Polanski did?

Well, I find it difficult to figure out what you think the Brattle should have done in this case. Obviously they had no way of knowing when they scheduled the movie that there was going to be an issue with anything Polanski-related that there hasn't been for the last two decades.

With luck, soon you can watch all the Polanski directed films you want without contributing one red cent to him.
