Saturday Night Live: Week 5

yendiSimply top-notch, from beginning to end. Swift wasn't perfect, but she was good enough in most skits, and the entire cast was used well.
In order:
End of an Era: Okay, Fox News is an easy target, but they still hit it. Sudeikis does a great Glenn Beck, and Hader's Shep Smith was delightfully creepy. And Wiig's take on Greta Van Susteren was a blast.
Musical Monologue: Good nod to Swift's assorted tabloid stories (and a shot at Joe Jonas!), and a witty use of someone who probably would have problems delivering a standard monologue.
Swine Fever: Good use of Bobby Moynahan here. The skit reminds me of the real-life weight-loss candy "Ayds" that was popular in the '70s, but mysteriously faded in the '80s.
The View: Nasim Pedrad's Barbara Walters makes a nice addition to Kenan's Whoopi (the mirror "looks" were priceless), Fred Armison's Joy, and Wiig's Hasselback. And Swift does a damned fine Kate Gosslin impression.
Digital Short: Firelight: Oh, dear lord, if you see one skit from the show, see this one. This was perfect.
Hollywood Dish: The closest thing to a "weak" sketch, it still allowed Hader and Wiig to do goofy faces, and was funny enough.
Teens Raising Awareness About Awful Parent Drivers: This had us in stiches at times, as the whole "arguing with the GPS" thing is something that Elayna's grandpa does, and the talking snarkily to the car in front of you bit is something both her grandpa and I do.
Weekend Update: The most consistently funny part of the show was as good as always. Abby Elliot's Sarah McLachlan bit was painfully funny, and Nicholas Fehn has grown on me. The surprise appearance by Amy was a nice bonus.
Penelope: It's been a while since we've seen her, and this is one of Kristen's best characters.
Scared Straight: This was the other highlight (even if Swift feels gratuitous here). This may be the best recurring sketch Kenan has. I love the concept, and I love the execution every time. I also love the facf that Kenan had Hader and Samberg giggling in the middle of it. It was that damned funny.
Roommates: Yay, more Nasim! She and Taylor played off each other well. Samberg, normally stuck with the goofy roles, plays the straight man here for a chance, and does it well.
Bunny Business: What a great way to close things out: A set of brilliant artist parodies. Bill Hader's Eddie Vedder was perfect, as we Fred Armison's Randy Newman and Kristin Wiig's Natalie Merchant. But Swift's Shakira was damned near better than the lackluster performances by the real Shakira last month. The comment about how they never even finished making the movie was a nice touch.
My only real complaint: They no longer show the cast hugging and milling about at the end. I miss that.
