I shared this on Google Reader yesterday, but it's worth noting here, too:

Pretty much every expert at the time said that Barry Zito was an awful, awful signing (Ken Davidoff and Ben Shpigel excluded).

Just something to remember as the off-season hype machine ramps up for the latest group Scott Boras free-agents.

(Also, can you imagine if the Phillies had gone ahead and traded Utley for Zito back in '06? No Mets collapse could have gotten an Utley-free team into the playoffs in 2007 or 2008.)

Opinion in Cardinal Nation is divided re: Holliday. Half are going nuts that the Cards are sitting back to see what develops (and if the rumors are true, he can forget that huge payday), and the other half are "He dropped the damn ball, let's go after Bay!"

Everyone is generally agreed that Boras is an asshole, though.

I suspect that the only person who doesn't think that Boras is an asshole is Boras. And even he's probably split on that one.
