No matter what minor or odd ailment you have, there's someone else out there who shares it.

(Yeah, I've been prone to under-chin cramps ever since I was about sixteen. It's not fun.)

I get those too! Usually when I'm yawning and trying not to. How ridiculous is it to get a cramp from yawning?

*former LMT lifts her hand*

The muscles under your chin and around your throat and jaw are often subject to spasm and overwork, and almost everyone who has them touched finds them tender. I am not at all surprised at your problem.

Alas, they're all very near nerve bundles and your windpipe, so most LMTs avoid them (and should) unless they're specially trained.

Huh. It sounds like TMJ, but in a completely different part of the head/neck area.

I had a really painful one of those when I was a teenager. Since then whenever I feel one starting I push on it with my thumb and that seems to stop it from cramping all the way.

I recently discovered that my wife's snow allergy is actually a known medical condition: cold urticaria (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chronic_cold_urticaria).

It always feels like muscle cramping to me; it's not so much painful as "not being able to go there", like a pair of pliers on the wrong setting.

*nods* Your instinct is right. It is muscle cramping (for the most part).

Nah, getting it "fixed" is probably more trouble than it's worth. Your best bet is prevention/being mindful of conditions that create it. And probably Naproxen/some NSAID if it lasts too long. :)

Oh yeah. Those cramps hurt like a... something that hurts a lot.

(ok, so my analogy circuits are offline today.)

Mine got better when I started to drink lots more water, and very little soda.

Just sayin'.
