I'm on the record as one of the few people -- and almost certainly the only horror fan -- who thinks that Shaun of the Dead is a howlingly overrated mediocrity saved only by a few amusing performances. So "directed by Edgar Wright" is certainly not a phrase that automatically inspires confidence in me.

That said, the latest trailer for Scott Pilgrim vs the World looks to be about as perfect an adaptation of the graphic novels as I could imagine. I still expect it to flop -- quirky doesn't play well, and August hits are still the exception and not the rule -- but at least I'll likely enjoy it.:

What did you think of Hot Fuzz? Shawn of the Dead was amusing to me as it was my introduction to the zombie genre, but I could barely breathe during parts of Hot Fuzz. Maybe not the same director?

I am a huge fan of the buddy cop film genre (or at least my father was, so I've seen a TON) and I really enjoyed Hot Fuzz for making fun of every single one of them.

In terms of funny zombie movies, my current favorite is Zombieland.

I am so tired of Michael Cera playing this type of character. I realize that the whole "fighting supervillains" is a little further off than other stuff, but I just don't like him.

Yeah, I'm there too. Honestly, I would be so much more enthused about this film without Michael Cera involved. I didn't much care for this character the first time, and this looks to be at least the seventh incarnation of it. People tell me his alter-ego character in Youth In Revolt is different, but I can't bring myself to deliberately sit through it to find out.

I thought Shaun was OK and Hot Fuzz very good. About half of the DVDs shown in the cupboard in the latter are his collection...

between you not liking shaun of the dead and MGK not loving toy story 3 as much as i did, today has not been a good day for validating my opinions. that being said, i will of course just chalk it all up to

http://xkcd.com/386/

and ask why you didn't like it so much?
