Speaking of banned books

(Which I was, over on Twitter), please, if you've got a few minutes, read this post, detailing what Risha Mullins went through when dealing with the Montgomery County, Kentucky school board, a "board" that seems to have no fucking clue (or concern) about education.

I feel sick, too. I'm now logged in to my library, and am ordering some of those books for me and my son to read. Two years ago his high school banned a magazine after a parent complained about the language used in it. The librarian fought tooth and nail to prevent it, but couldn't convince the "committee" it was worth keeping.

I hate committees like that so much; they seem to exist solely as impediments to learning.

Well, crap. I understand why she might have felt pressured to do that, but it's disappointing.
