Why, exactly, do you hate Criminal Minds so much? It seems to still be one of your hits, but you appear to want it to fail. Did one of your millionaire execs bet another one (likely the one supporting Charlie Sheen's drug habit) a dollar?

CBS has no damned idea why CM works. It confuses the fuck out of them. It doesn't do any of the things they think it should, and yet it succeeds with a demographic audience that they continually fail to reach when they try to. People who make a living with clipboards and powerpoint presentations do not like things that they can't replicate using scientific principles. To them, a success they can't repeat is as bad as a failure. It means the creatives have won.

Personally, I think the show should be put to rest. I'll miss the cast, and I'll miss a lot of the brilliant writing, but I think they've taken it about as far as they can before the suits start/finish breaking things.

I have no idea why it works, either.

It's a pale imitation of NCIS, and the characters are not as vivid.

It also means there is the possibility of it changing the status quo, and nobody wants that. Because then people would have to update their powerpoints.

I haven't watched it much since Mandy Patinkin left.

Well, the chances of Shemar Moore and Thomas Gibson leaving are slim and none. And most likely Brewster won't leave if the projects fall through...so...she's still up in the air. But yeah, execs know what they're doing with shows...sense when, exactly?

I'll admit that CM is an ensemble show and can (and has) survived character losses. And I've been fine with the departure of Mandy Patinkin and Lola Glaudini (and I think that the addition of Paget Brewster made the show much stronger than LG.) But to lose Thomas Gibson, or worse, both Thomas Gibson and Shemar Moore, would be to lose the show, in my opinion. (Honestly, with the exception of Many Patinkin's replacement, whose name I'm currently at a loss to come up with because it is early and Monday and I'm too lazy to check IMDb, I don't think the show can lose anyone, especially not so soon after losing A.J. Cook.) I don't usually flail about and declare, "If so-and-so is gone, I won't watch!" because CBS doesn't care and neither does anyone else, but...
