Speaking of weak storylines

I loved the main arc of last night's Criminal Minds (and no, haven't watched the spin-off yet), but much as I love Prentiss, the idea of slipping in some sort of evil James Bond character -- complete with Bond-like superpowers, like vanishing without a trace, traveling incognito, access to classified intel, and an ability to break into any place at any time -- is just wrong. Throw that crap over to NCIS, where it belongs.

I liked last night's episode, but the sudden introduction of the whole powerful-evil-guy backstory, over the past few episodes, not only seems really out-of-character for the show, but it also seems to be telegraphing the possible departure of Prentiss, which would be unfortunate (especially after the-powers-that-be already dumped JJ).

I haven't watched the spin-off yet either, but based on the previews I've seen so far (and the underwhelming backdoor pilot), I'm not optimistic.

I will say adding the James-Bondish character may not be good, but they've been hinting that Prentiss's background is not what people thought it was since season two. In "Revelations" (which is mid-season two), JJ asked Prentiss how she dealt with the blood and guts of the field after coming from having a desk job...Prentiss looked uncomfortable and after a decidedly pregnant pause said she guessed she could just compartmentalize better than most people. I'm just saying, that it looks like they may have planned something along these lines for a while...and, damn, they waited a long time to pull that trigger. (God I sound like a total Criminal Minds geek, but really I just watched "Revelations" in rerun and went "Oh...well, that makes more sense now.")
