Because it's been a while
Mar. 14th, 2011 02:50 pmToday's another "get work done" day, which means listening to music (since headphones are the universal symbol of "don't disturb me" at work*). Which means lots of music, which means it's time for a lyrics quiz. As always, googling lyrics is unethical and has been correlated with diarrhetic goats randomly showing up in your bedroom at three in the morning. Here are snippets from last twenty tracks, minus instrumentals, foreign, esoterica, repeated artists, and Hadaway's "What is Love." I'll edit the post as folks get answers right, but may be offline for a while this afternoon/evening.
Oh, at least four songs are primarily from musicals or in-movie soundtracks. And at least one was a top 40 hit in the US, many have hit various other charts (alternative, modern rock, etc), and a few are just plain album tracks. At least one song was used in an iPod commercial.
1. No cigar, no lady on his arm.
2. The girl with crimson nails has Jesus 'round her neck.
3. Developmentally tortured minds are the average citizen's sources of pain.
4. She flew from peak to peak with the freedom of an eagle.
5. I know all this and more.
6. I'd kill you with these guns, but I don't think they shoot.
7. East, West, North, or South, guaranteed to rock the house.
8. They'll treat you like the evil hard-bitten criminal scum you are.
9. But my priest says, "you ain't saving no souls."
10. They're so jealous of my pretty star.
11. A mob jumps to their feet
12. Look me in the eye and promise no love is like our love
13. Somewhere there's a place, a road without a sign.
14. If that's your car, you need to go ahead and get into it.
15. And the fiddler fiddles something so sublime.
16. Fingertips have memories,
17. Your alias says you're Captain Jean-Luc Picard
18. I hear my god in a coma freeze.
19. I see my present partner in the imperfect tense
20. We turned around to face our fate, downhearted but alive
*Alas, too few people speak universal.
