Douchebaggery in action
Mar. 30th, 2011 01:30 pm[Trigger warning]
For reasons that I'm sure seemed good at the time (and that I really hope can be chalked up to lack of coffee and maybe not clicking all the way through a series of links), Boing Boing linked to a series of D&D Monsters repurposed as Sexy Monsters (and if a Doctor Moreau melding of a Mind Flayer and a Hooter's waitress, is your kink, have at that image if you'd like).
The one that's just unbelievable, though, is the triggery picture of a bugbear about to sexually assault a woman. Seriously, do not click on that link unless you really can deal with such imagery. Oh, and the picture is labeled, "A Bugbear creating a hostile work environment." Ha! Funny, right? I mean, it's just like that awkward sexual harassment episode of The Office*, only instead of Dwight or whoever making the workplace mentally and emotionally unsafe for the female employees, we've got a bugbear about to rape a fallen female warrior! Isn't that hysterical?
Yeah, not exactly.
The best part, though, is the near-Scott Adams level of douchebaggery when the artist is called on his shit. You see, having a naked monster with a dripping penis hunched over a nearly naked woman has "no rape implication, just violence." That's the sort of statement that can only be made by A) a liar B) a rape apologist or C) both. He goes on to attack the person who pointed it out (of course).
The artist seems to be, as I noted in my comment at BoingBoing, talented. Talent doesn't excuse being a dick, though (see Wil Wheaton's rule), and if the art wasn't enough, his comment makes it clear that his talent will never be enough.

*Okay, I don't watch The Office, but the ten minutes I've seen were very awkward, and I'm assuming they've done a sexual harassment episode at some point.

Date: 2011-03-30 10:23 pm (UTC)I've loved his art for years; one of the only artists I knew besides Mr. Reusch who actually did sexy big girls and it meant a lot to me. (I may have/had trashy tastes, but it still meant a lot. I...can't even explain what I feel right now.
Fucking hell. That's just horrible.
Wait a minute, CORY DOCTROW WHAT?
Date: 2011-03-30 10:35 pm (UTC)Coop's Monster Manual Cory Doctorow (http://www.boingboing.net/2011/03/29/coops-monster-manual.html)
Wow. Fucking wow. I may even be angrier that Cory Doctrow just thought it was hi-larious. Coop's known for trashy, veering on offensive work (the bugbear was hideous-no argument there) and his currently being a rape apologist is horrible but the fact that fucking Cory Doctrow, Mr. Progressive, Super-Computer, I'm One of the Good Guys Doctrow just thought it was a laugh because there was a "weiner"...
Fuck you Cory Doctrow. Fuck you.

Date: 2011-03-30 11:43 pm (UTC)Because the two are mutually exclusive, is that what he's trying to say? Or that if there isn't violence, it isn't rape?
There may be a future as a Republican congressman for him.

i mean, i guess when someone sees some menacing dripdick looming over a prostrate victim it could be all about... naw, just rape.
