Just got a call from MSPCA-Angell. Jack's scheduled for surgery this afternoon. Oh, and in a Columbo/Steve Jobs "one more thing" moment, it turns out that the cost of potential TMJ work he might need (since his mouth is out of alignment) "somehow" wasn't included in the estimate. So we're probably looking at breaking $2K.

And yeah, I do love the level of care he's getting, but at the same time, it really does feel like they've just hooked a vacuum up to my wallet. Because what am I going to do, say "no" to something?

Been there. And if you say no, why? It's a procedure done for people every day - but was done in the animal models first.

So yeah. I have an extra reason not to refuse reasonable care. (Danish guilt. You think Jewish guilt is bad....)

In the last couple of weeks, we had to drop $4K on [livejournal.com profile] brushette for a torn ligament in the leg, and I feel for you and for Jack, but there's plenty of people out there who'd have just put their pet down, rather than take the financial hit.

We're different; you, me, [livejournal.com profile] shadesong, and [livejournal.com profile] forestcats. There's others out there like us, but there's lots more who aren't.

Best wishes for Jack...but after what happened to our pup, I can't give you more than good wishes as the $ aren't there...

...

...

...I would not call them people. I have a number of things I would call them.

But you did everything you could, right? Not just "Medical emergency? Ah well, no more pet"?

*passes hot chocolate* I am sorry. This is a bad time to talk about such things, I think. We would both grieve for our animals if we lost them. That is a fraternity.

Yes. Poor phrasing on my part, in my original comment, because I absolutely meant people who just shrugged and didn't try; I know that's not you.

He's in surgery now. Waiting is.

(Clarification: This means people who did not try at all.)

Angell is rather famous for being pricey. Great care, but pricey- rather like Tufts emergency vet clinic, which we've paid for a bunch of times.

I'm wishing you all and jack the best.
