Jack update
Apr. 22nd, 2011 01:54 pmFor those wondering, Jack's pretty much back to his old self, meowing all the time, hopping up on the bed, and rubbing his head against everything in the house. The other two cats still aren't totally comfortable with him, even after I rubbed Jack with a shirt of mine and tried the dab of vanilla trick, but they seem better now than two days ago.
Feeding him medicine is fun in the same sense that banging my head against a wall is fun; he is much better at expressing his displeasure than the other two cats have been, and managed to sneak his paw out even when wrapped in a towel (and has unerring aim when it comes to batting away to the syringe). He's also discovered a safe spot exactly halfway under the bed in which to hide.
I idiotically left the medicine out yesterday morning (it needs to be refrigerated), which meant a mad drive at night to get more, at which point the assholes at the hospital* informed me that when they'd billed me two days earlier, they'd forgotten to include the actual dental surgery, so all of the money they were going to refund wasn't being given back, and oh, we oh another $250. Lovely.
As of this morning, Jack is no longer on kitty morphine, so we only have to give him one syringe of medicine every morning and night. So that's good, at least. Here's hoping it was the morphine smell causing the other cats to distrust him.
*Note that while the doctors at MSPCA are wonderful, the management sucks like Mega Maid.
