Jani Lane, lead singer of Warrant, has died.

I know it's not a shock -- he didn't exactly live a sedate lifestyle, and he lasted a long time -- but it's still kind of surprising. I was a big fan of theirs when I was a teenager, and still remember first hearing "Down Boys" in the radio when I was at camp. I still prefer "Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinkin' Rich" to the more-hyped "Cherry Pie," fwiw.

You know, I couldn't stand Warrant at the time, but they held up better than expected. And Jani earned my eternal respect during an MTV documentary about 10 years ago on hair metal, when he looked into the camera and said, "Okay, I admit it: we killed heavy metal! We did it! Our fault!" He seemed like a genuinely nice guy.

Oh no!!! Oh....oh man...I thought he'd gotten clean and the reports are indicating it might be from an overdose. Oh his poor family. :(
