So, Robin is currently sitting in the Batcave, next to one of the most powerful networked computers in the entire DC universe.

And when Alfred tells him some startling information, he decides that he needs "to get some facts," and swings off into the night? Does he think the best way to get information about HIV is by beating up the Joker's thugs? Really?

This is where I would like to point out the value of a good research librarian. Although, in all honesty, Tim should already know this stuff by this point.

I am sympathetic. Given the choice between getting facts from books and getting facts from people, I always try the people first. :)

Google didn't exist then. What's he going to do, use GOPHER to dig through the UIUC databases? Use TALK to direct-chat a scientist logged on to the IBM600 mainframe? Telnet onto IRC and troll for cyber? ;)

I see many cases where that's the way to go, but in the case of actual scientific research (and especially when the hero in question is trained to do that research), there's something to be said for getting knowing the literature.

But then he can't fly around looking awesome with the cape whirling! That makes for a far more interesting comic panel than someone sitting at a desk. As all of us know who work cubicle jobs, and would much rather be fencing or cosplaying or whatever. >.>
