In the first one, I discovered just how awesome a Scheme/Counting House engine could be. It was fueled by Border Villages for cycling and to get a couple of free caches (with their associated Coppers). Once the engine started running (which was late), there were provinces on four of my final five turns.
In the second, I once again floundered in a Colony game, although I did actually get a really good engine running late. If I'd gone for a second Tactician, I think I might have had a shot here; the Tactician/Grand Market/Inn/Adventurer combo got me two two-Colony turns.
