Tomb of the Cybermen

So I finally watched this (thanks to BBC America's reruns), and it's convinced me of three things:

1. There was no Golden Age of SF TV. Seriously, not counting non-continuity shows like Twilight Zone and Outer Limits, I'm not sure there's a single live-action genre show pre-TNG that's even worth preserving for entertainment value (and even TNG's first two seasons are up for debate).

2. Classic Who remains worth my time only for the bits of continuity that get used present day (basically, archeological value).

3. Holy shit, was this filled with racism. Not subtle racism, either, but over-the-top, "black people exist to be stupid and strong and obey white folks" racism.

On the plus side, as a fan of Berserk, it was great to hear the the awful Cyberman voice say that the "humanoid must not escape." And The Doctor and his companions were pretty fun.

Loved V the five-part pair of miniseries, but V the ongoing series was wretched (in spite of my ill-advised pubescent crush on June Chadwick). Alien Nation hit right around the same time as when TNG got good.

Given how little Troughton exists, I'll take what I can getr- although it is indeed racefail-o matic.

*nod* I do understand that there weren't many complete episodes to work with, but I really think they'd have been better with a clip show (especially given how slow even the non-racist parts of the episode were; for all my complaints about how "The Rebel Flesh/The Almost People" was one episode stretched too thin, there was a tenth as much content in TotC.

I've only seen the first season of each, but Blake's 7 and Sapphire & Steel both strike me as good, pre-TNG SFF.
